Phillips Exeter Academy, located in Exeter, NH, is a highly selective coeducational independent school for boarding and day students in grades 9 through 12, and post-graduate level as well. The Position
The Writer/Editor develops inspiring and informative print and digital materials that reflect the Academy’s core values and strategic priorities. Expertise in communicating targeted messages to key internal and external audiences, including students, parents, alumni and prospective families of independent schools or higher education institutions, is expected — as is the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Responsible for brainstorming, creating, and transforming ideas into compelling writing that will appear in fundraising materials, the alumni magazine and other publications, as well as websites, blogs, media relations pieces, and more. Expertise with professional writing and editing across mediums is expected.

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations or Marketing.
• Minimum 3 - 5 years’ writing/editorial experience in a journalism or marketing environment required.
• Experience in an academic institution preferred.
• Experience with coordinated, unified institutional messages through a variety of formats, including traditional and emerging media.
• Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting preferred.

Skills
Qualifications:
• Excellent cooperative and collaboration skills.
• Possess a healthy sense of humor and the desire to work as a member of a group.
• Proven administrative and organizational abilities, including project management and working on a deadline with multiple projects in play.
• Possesses a lively, engaging writing style, an ability to write on deadline, proofreading skills, and attention to detail.
• Ability to think both strategically and creatively, and create innovative solutions to everyday challenges.
• Possesses a genuine desire to produce materials with the client in mind.
• Fluency with Associated Press style guidelines.
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships.
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.
• Proficient in MS Office. Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, and Photoshop.
• Comfort editing documents in Word, Acrobat or InDesign.
• High degree of organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and multi-task with accuracy.
